Day 14 - San Francisco - New York

Well - it's about 8am in San Francisco and the sun is rising above the buildings on the hill above town - right into our room. The weather has been spectacular and we've truly enjoyed our time here. Now we'll have a shower and go somewhere for some breakfast before we head to the airport.

The sun peeping in our window at the San Remo Hotel

Where we had breakfast...notice the bread making it's way in baskets over the heads of the people eating!

One of the lovely piers at the wharf area of San Francisco

The front and then a hallway of our Hotel

Another photo of the seals on 'their' wharfs with San Francisco as the back drop

The famous 'mist' starting to roll in...this fascinated me - it rolled in and then just rolled back out again that morning. It looked so spectacular.

One of the famous trams...and yes - we did ride one down the famous rolling streets!

and another couple of chances for a 'self portrait'

Then we're off to the airport

Our plane for the 5 hour flight...(same as Melbourne to Bali!)

Just waiting for our plane

Now we're in the air as I'm writing. It's 6.15pm San Francisco time and 9.15 pm New York time. We look like landing quite early which is great. We had a really good last few hours in San Francisco. Just had a light breakfast then walked around, did some shopping for those back home (and some for a little girl somewhere in China), then made our way back to the Hotel. I never got back to the room because I confirmed the flight. Now we're nearly in NY - I feel really great and hope that we can organise a good place to stay and spend our few days in NY.

Almost up, up and away

Some of the snowy scenery en route

We couldn't believe this lake and the variation of colour - we have no idea what caused it but it looked fascinating

The Ramada at JFK Airport is nothing to write home about. It's one of the few places we booked before we left Australia because we were getting in so late. It actually reminds me of the cheaper hotels in Bali. It is quite dingy and the bedding smells of smoke, but it will do. We got in, got our luggage no problem, made it to the Hotel, had some dinner then decided to look for NY accommodation for the next 3 nights. I made a few calls without success so went down on the the internet....until 2.15am! No luck. I couldn't think anymore so we went to sleep at about 2.30am with no certainty on where we would stay the next few nights. What I didn't know is that it was a public holiday weekend...if I had known, I would have booked from Australia!
