Day 12 - San Francisco-Yosemite

We both slept 12 long hours...we needed every minute of it too let me tell you.
We had a very sparse, but comfy night at the Youth Hostel San Francisco.

Our somewhat crowded room at the YH at San Francisco (Fishermans Wharf)

We got up and dressed, had breakfast which was included and then decided to go for a walk and check out some other accommodation. Not that the YH was bad - it was just a very different scene to what we're used to and I kept worrying about valuables etc. I also have to tell a funny story of waking up and heading to the loo only to walk straight into the men's. Don't know if you've stayed at a YH before - or if they're all like this one - but there's a communal drying area (for after your shower) - the only individual area's are the actual shower cubicle...no more needs to be said. I disappeared red faced VERY quickly!

We came across the 'San Remo Hotel' - a quirky hotel on Mason Street that is really close to Fishermans Wharf and is over 100 years old. We loved it (got to choose our own rooms from the many available) - would recommend this place to anyone!

We then walked up and down the unbelievable streets of San Francisco until we found Avis and hired a car for a day or so. Picked up our luggage after having some Sushi and headed for Yosemite.

A gorgeous sparkling Fire Truck

Couldn't resist this one!

or this one! how's that!

The streets of San Francisco have to be seen to be believed!

The little car - a Chevy - is great.

We were amazed by the variety of the country side we saw along the way again. It's a 4 hour drive to Yosemite (340Km). We got a bit mucked up with the miles/kilometers thing and really didn't realize how long it would take. It was a big decision and I hope we're not disappointed. We've spent a lot of time today in San Francisco and I don't want to be too late getting to Yosemite.

Well it was well worth the journey let me tell you! We arrived JUST in time to see the sunset. It was so beautiful.

How spectacular....

We then tried to get accommodation in the Park to no avail - fully booked. So we had to head out of the park (about 25 minutes) to a beaut spot called 'Yosemite View Lodge' - it was a bit more pricey than we had hoped, but very roomy and comfortable. We were able to pick-up some lean cuisine's and cook for ourselves which helped the budget!
