Day 10-11 On the road to and then at San Francisco

Well I really don't know how to describe the events of the last 30 or so hours. We dropped our much loved Motorhome back to Go-West and then we were taken to the Greyhound Bus Station to catch a bus to San Francisco. Had we know what lay ahead we would NEVER have undertaken this journey this way. Greyhound Buses are not a scratch on the ones we have back in Australia let me tell you! We found out later that bus transport (long distance) is the lowest form of transport in the USA. If only we'd known.

We've been on 2 buses - been taken off these buses (including all our luggage) some 3-4 times. The whole 'going over the USA border thing was nothing short of a farce and a waste of time and the buses were nothing short of disgusting. This one leg of the journey involved SO much it was stupid. We had one border crossing and then a security check. The security check was a bit of a laugh actually as the guy doing it picked what we'd been through and decided to make a bit of a fun with us - it was some much needed light relief.

I stupidly though the bus we would get for the Seattle-San Francisco leg would be a really good bus (because it's about 23 hours) - but it was the same stinking uncomfortable bus we had for the first short let of the journey. The toilets were so disgusting they made Thailand trains look like the Queen's loo!!! Therefore I barely drank a thing. I think by the end of the trip the contents of the toilet were well and truly up near the front seats. We had only one meal stop - for breakfast at 6.30am - only to find NOTHING open....go figure!

The people on the train were quite colourfull too. Everything from mums with bubs to young and old desperates. At one stop (of which there were about 15!) I saw two of the older guys sift through the station lockers and any that weren't locked they pulled all the stuff out of and took what they wanted. It left me with a sad but sick feeling cause the guys do life this way all the time - they weren't in the least ashamed to do it in front of us - and we felt helpless.

What a day or so - I think I'll remember it for ever. We had a shower as SOON as we arrived and then went to Fishermans Wharf for a walk and some dinner. Stopped back to check emails.....and now for some much, much needed sleep.

Only a few photo's of San Francisco - certainly nothing else worth taking during that journey!

One of the first sightings of Fishermans Wharf

Some interesting rock designs done almost daily along the shore

Not a bad place for our first decent meal in a few days

Then some beautiful evening photo's of San Francisco at dusk
